Holophane is at the forefront of lighting technology, having developed considerable expertise in the supply of highly energy efficient luminaires, lamps, and control gear, thus contributing to sustainability through its products. In answer to society's growing awareness of lighting's effect upon the environment, Holophane is taking steps to increasingly minimise its own environmental impact and contribute to sustainability by addressing the relevant issues. These include light intrusion, night time friendly' requirements, energy efficiency, effective recycling of WEEE and a reduction of our own carbon footprint, while still producing the highest quality of illumination compliant with the current lighting standards. Our manufacturing processes are regularly assessed to ensure compliance with environmental legislation and industry codes of practice, Holophane strives to produce products that achieve these goals using components from a wide variety of manufacturers. Our approach is a critical one, and being totally independent of lamp and gear manufacturers provides Holophane with the opportunity to select and use the most energy efficient supplies and components. However this is not the only driver in component choice; the quality of components is critical to the lifetime energy cost of a product in relation to component replacement, maintenance and the associated CO2 that is generated.
ISO 14001 Environmental Policy
Holophane has received accreditation to the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard. This follows the implementation of a rigorous programme to improve current environmental performance and put in place a strategy that will deliver continuous improvement through an Environmental Management System. In pursuit of our mission to be the leading lighting supplier in our industry, we recognise that certain areas of our operation have an effect on the local, regional and global environment. The management is committed to continuous improvements in environmental performance and to increase the development and sales of energy efficient control systems. Our aim as a company is to be carbon neutral. We shall set as our minimum bench mark the prevention of pollution and full compliance with all environmental regulations, laws and codes of practise that are applicable to our environmental aspects.
To achieve our aims we will:
• Continually assess the environmental aspects and impact of our operations and, through minimising the use of materials and resources, we will reduce our wastage to the lowest practical level.
• Design products in such a way as to minimise their environmental impact in production, usage and disposal.
• Seek to continually improve our environmental performance, by setting and reviewing environmental objectives and targets within the company and with our customers and suppliers.
• Involve our employees in the development and operation of our environmental system, and objectives
• Review this Environmental Policy at least annually, or when there are any significant changes either to our operations or to environmental legislation.
All of the company is committed to the implementation of this policy and will give full backing to all those authorised to carry it out.
WEEE Compliance
All Holophane products are fully compliant with current European legislation, standards and industry codes of practice. Holophane is a WEEE compliant manufacturer, which requires that the company having placed a product on the market fulfil its responsibility for the re-cycling of that product at its end of its life. To discharge this responsibility, Holophane has joined Lumicom the LIF WEEE Compliance Scheme who will, on our behalf, deal with the disposal and recycling of the waste in an efficient and environmentally responsible way. All Holophane products are also RoHS compliant which significantly limits the amount of such "hazardous" waste entering the environment.
