Grönfingers Garden Centre, Germany

When the owner of this garden centre decided to double the amount of floor space by building a large new retail area he decided to completely renew the lighting throughout.

The design team looked at various lighting solutions but Holophane were chosen to manufacture the new lighting system and were asked to produce a bespoke solution to meet both the exact requirements of the owner in terms of energy usage and light level and the aesthetic vision of the Architect.

The Holophane Prismatron glass reflector provides the wide light distribution required for the relatively low mounting height on the project, whilst controlling glare and providing a sparkle that compliments the glass environment of the greenhouses.

Remote control gear is mounted in metal housings that blend seamlessly with the structure of the greenhouses and the latest dimmable electronic ballasts feed two luminaires from each remote gear unit. Roof mounted photocells enable daylight linked dimming of the luminaires resulting in greater energy efficency during daylight hours.

150W CDM-T lamps were chosen to provide a colour temperature of 3700K (Ra 90) to replicate as closely as possible the warm colour appearance of domestic tungsten lighting so that customers can appreciate the colour of the flowers in the garden centre and see a very similar colour appearance when they view their chosen produce at home.
