Holophane COVID-19 Statement Update 27.05.2020

Firstly, a sincere thank you to all once again for your effort, co-operation and understanding as we strive to make the right decisions for our business, our people and our customers and ultimately ensure the long-term health of Holophane.  Our highest day to day priority continues to be the wellbeing of our staff, their families and our stakeholders.

The Prime Minister has now begun the gradual easing of the UK lockdown, encouraging workers specifically in the construction and manufacturing industries to return to work, where working from home is not possible.  Four weeks ago, we communicated that we are planning to increase our capacity from the factory, to around 80% of normal levels.  Our plan already aims to align us with the very latest government guidance for safe working.  During these four weeks a number of changes have been made to the physical working environment at Milton Keynes, with staff welfare the goal at this difficult time.  The effort and dedication of all involved in facilitating the changes is recognised and very much appreciated.  We will continue to apply changes going forward to all areas to allow distancing measures to be applied and create a safe environment for any members of the team coming back in to work at Bond Avenue.

As a business we continue to see a reduced but relatively sustained level of activity from our customers. With more and more building sites restarting and this most recent government announcement, we are optimistic about sustaining a gradual improvement to our output.  We have, as promised, been closely monitoring and actioning UK Government guidance for manufacturing businesses, listening to our people, looking hard at the data regarding customer and project activity and liaising closely with our supply chain.

Due to the great work I have mentioned, we are confident we can now achieve 80% output capacity in a safe production environment.  This level of activity is very consistent with the data produced by the LIA (Lighting Industry Association) for the whole UK lighting market.  Therefore, until we see a sustained improvement in orders and activity, we regrettably must continue to ask those operating on a 4-day week and those furloughed to remain so for the time being.

All Holophane staff that can are still working from home and are fully enabled. They will continue to do so strictly in line with the UK Government lockdown recommendations until further notice.  A skeleton team of essential staff only are currently working from our factory and offices.  A proportion of our internal team are furloughed to reflect current workloads and our full sales team remain working from home on reduced hours and are endeavouring to service customer demand fully and as normal.

We thank all our team for their unquestioning support, loyalty and commitment in this extremely difficult time.  I know the Holophane team will continue to strive to serve our customers and communicate with our partners and suppliers to deliver the best possible outcomes.

At Holophane we all remain very focused, positive about our business and confident about the future..
